BENARAS
Inside the eternal city: One of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, Benaras has many hidden gems to offer patient traveler.
Also known as Varanasi and Kashi, Benaras is regarded as the cosmic centre of the universe according to Hindu beliefs.
Mark Twain once wrote, “Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together.”
GETTING THERE
By air: Benaras has its own airport which is 22 km from the city. The Babatpur airport connects Varanasi with all the major cities in India.
By train: Well connected with most cities in India.
By road: Agra 565 km, Allahabad 128 km, Kanpur 330 km, Patna 246 km, Sarnath 10 km.
WHAT TO SEE
Bharat Kala Museum, Ram Nagar Durg, Nandeshwar kothi, Jantar Mantar.
EXCURSIONS FROM BENARAS
Sarnath: 10 km from Benaras.
Chunar: Located 40 km from Benaras, this place is not only scenic it also has a must-see port.
Jaunpur: Located 65 km from Benaras, it was built to guard the eastern side of Delhi. Full of forts, bridges and temples.
Vindhyachal: 90 km from Varanasi, it is the abode of the Shakt peeth and a beautiful place to trek and chill.
